nChapter 69 – Catching the thief (Part 1)
nYun Ting already couldn’t stand Lin Mumu’s way of shooting as it was simply a waste of the army’s bullets. He put on his standard solemn expression and spoke out: “Classmate Lin Mumu, come over here.”
n“Yes!”
n“Follow me, I’ll teach you target shooting by demonstrating.”
nFor real? Who would believe that, ah ~ Well, even if the crowd of simple-minded students may believe him, Lin Mumu definitely wouldn’t buy it.
nLin Mumu played a ‘not daring to ask’ attitude and obediently followed behind Yun Ting.
nAs he walked in the front with a serious expression, Lin Mumu quietly walked behind him with an equally straight face while holding her gun. The atmosphere between them was indescribably solemn, and even when other people saw them, they didn’t think anything more about it.
nOnly a few soldiers actually whispered in an envious tone: “This girl is so lucky to be personally guided by senior official.”
n“That’s right, ah, senior official is a godly shooter who never misses any of the ten flying and most difficult targets. I’ve never seen him make a mistake.”
nThe so-called private training the soldiers were envious of was actually Yun Ting bringing Lin Mumu to a little orchard next to the military training camp.
nBy the time Lin Mumu started drooling over the fruits, two juicy red apples were placed in her hands.
n“Eat them.”
n“Pfff!” Lin Mumu couldn’t help laughing out loud, “What would happen if this esteemed senior official was caught as a thief by the villager owning the orchard?”
n“Hé, if they want to catch the thief who stole their goods, they’ll only catch you, this little thief.” (TN: ‘Hé’ expelling breath, in this context, jokingly in a god mood.)
nLin Mumu looked just like a little greedy glutton. Both her hands were holding one apple each, and while she was biting from one, she was still clutching the other, intending to devour it right after her first one was done.
n“En, in that case, I’ll immediately eat the suspicious items, so there’ll be no evidence.”
nSuddenly, as the both of them were talking, a white-haired old man really appeared, accompanied by his two huge and sturdy Chinese rural dogs.
nLin Mumu’s expression instantly turned dull. Would she really be caught in the act?
nHowever, she still reacted fairly quickly, and the red apple she had bitten from was instantly throw into Yun Ting’s hand.
nYun Ting also didn’t avoid it and casually caught it before continuing to bite from that same apple.
nEh? What kind of reaction was this? Should thieves act so bold and confident, ah?
n“Grandpa Guo.” Yun Ting suddenly called out.
n“Oh, the little girl looks very healthy and lively.” The old man was quite interesting. He didn’t care about Yun Ting, and only paid attention to Lin Mumu.

n“My wife.” Yun Ting proudly introduced her.
n“Hello Grandpa Guo.” Lin Mumu also greeted him the same as Yun Ting did.
n“Are you fond of fruits?”
n“En.” Lin Mumu nodded unconsciously.
n“Grandpa Guo doesn’t have anything much here, but I have plenty of fruit. You can eat whatever you like, just pay attention not to eat too much and upset your stomach.”
n“Thank you, Grandpa Guo.” This time, Lin Mumu was completely at ease. She could finally eat all the fruits she liked rightfully and confidently without fear of being caught like a thief.
n“Grandpa Guo is my grandpa’s old comrade-in-arms. Many years ago, he received a minor leg injury and decided to retreat from the army. Since then, he’s been in charge of this orchard. He once saved my grandpa’s life before, so I’ve always called him grandpa as well.” Yun Ting simply explained the matter to Lin Mumu.
n“En.” Lin Mumu nodded. The friendship one made on the battlefield was a life-long friendship.
n“Grandpa Guo, can I pick some fruits by myself?” Lin Mumu noticed a jujube tree from the distance and greedily swallowed back her saliva.
n“Alright, I like beautiful little dolls the most. You can eat whatever you want to as you wish. Let that stinky boy Yun Ting pick the fruits from the tree for you.” (TN: Stinky bod or smelly boy is an affectionate way to address a younger generation as an elder, it’s like saying he’s a mischievous little boy who’ll never grow up, at least in his eyes.)
n“En.” Lin Mumu obediently nodded, and really pointed her finger at the highest branch of the jujube tree while very expectantly looking at Yun Ting.
nYun Ting didn’t climb the tree, but actually took out a small military knife and threw it at the branch like a dart. The knife made a circle in the air and came back to Yun Ting whom skillfully caught it. The branch that was holding seven or eight dates instantly followed by falling by Lin Mumu’s feet.
nShe quickly picked the several jujubes from the branch and carefully washed with well water before politely giving some to Grandpa Guo first.
n“En, the little girl has pretty good insight. You can eat them and just take away those you couldn’t finish.”
n“Thanks a lot, Grandpa Guo!”
nAs a result, when Yun Ting and Lin Mumu returned from their special training session, Lin Mumu’s pockets were full of crisp and sweet red dates.
nWhen she took them out to share with Chen Fangya and the others, they didn’t waste the opportunity of teasing her again:
n“Sir Senior Official’s special training must be really awesome. It can also teach one how to produce the fruits of love!”
