nChapter 5
nAll of a sudden, Gu Shishi turned to look at that man.
nShe would never let Gu Anhao achieve her goal, whether that man was in a relationship with Anhao or not.
nShe stepped forward. “Wait a second. I think this must be some kind of a mistake. After all, Gu Anhao’s my younger sister, and we’re just here today to help change the errors of her ways so she won’t go astray. And you know what? Anhao never did well in school… ”
nGu Shishi, under the cold glare of the man, quickly changed the subject after feeling intimidated for no reason. “What I meant was, was that my sister, Anhao…”
n“The Gu family has a reputation in A City too, so I advise all of you to better mind your words and attitude.”
nZuo Hancheng softly spoke in an indifferent manner, “Since matters have already reached this point, I have no choice but to get Anhao out of this mess. Since Anhao has already agreed to marry me, there’s no need for all of you to be here telling her what to do.”
nHe gently patted Anhao’s shoulder and said, “Do you have your credentials?”
nWith a tiny spark of excitement within her, Anhao nodded. “Yup.”
nFive years ago, Madam Gu stubbornly refused to put Anhao’s name into the Gu family household registration when they adopted her. However, she agreed upon learning that her stay with them was temporary. As a result, Anhao had her very own stand-alone household registration book.
nMadam Gu frowned and said, “Gu Anhao, you better think this through. You’re a daughter of the Gu family, are you sure you want to simply marry a stranger just like that?”
n“What does it matter to you what I do? You all hope that the sooner I get out of the Gu family, the better! Am I right?”
nAnhao glanced at her in a cold manner. She had never felt so good, witnessing Madam Gu being this furious, along with Gu Shishi’s anxious and frustrated look. Then, she whispered after courageously tugging at the man’s sleeve, “How do we get married? Let’s get to it now!”
nZuo Hancheng saw the little girl’s pride and persistence despite mixing up her passion and the concept of marriage. He gave a slight smile. “We’ll go to the Bureau of Civil Affairs.”
n***
nSeveral days later.
nDue to the man doing all the talking on her behalf, Anhao could not remember how impulsive she was on that day anymore. She took the initiative to go to the Bureau of Civil Affairs with him to register their marriage not only because of his suggestion, but also because of the regret and fury that both Madam Gu and Gu Shishi were somehow displaying.
nFeeling distressed, she slammed her head against the table upon looking at the small red marriage passport.
nShe actually got married to a stranger who she had just met once.
nAnd she knew nothing about him other than his name being Zuo Hancheng!
nAfter that happened, he vanished without a trace as he had to go on a business trip overseas. All he left her was his private phone number.
nShe was only nineteen years old, but she got herself involved in a marriage without rhyme or reason! And she even had no clue who exactly her newly-wedded husband was!
n‘What if he’s a top drug lord? What if he’s a human trafficker?!
n‘Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!’
nWishing that she could knock herself unconscious, Anhao continued banging the tabletop with her head!
nOne month later.
nAnhao was about to forget the fact that she had transformed from a high schooler into a “married high schooler”.
nUntil she caused one hell of a mess due to her boldly doing something in Enchanting Bar…
n***
nThe conference room at the top floor of Shenling Group was silent at first, until the sound of a phone vibrating came all of a sudden. Without taking it seriously, everyone continued to listen to the report from the Planning Department.
nNo one did, until the CEO sitting in front abruptly picked up the phone on the table. Despite being highly principled, this was the first time Mr. Zuo had unprecedentedly answered a phone call while in the middle of a meeting upon noticing the caller ID.
n“Yes?”
n“Hello, this is the police station. Are you Gu Anhao’s guardian?”
nZuo Hancheng slightly raised his cold-looking eyebrows. “What’s the matter?”
n“Two of her classmates were badly beaten by Gu Anhao herself, and their parents made a police report just now. Since this is about resolving a dispute between students, it is compulsory for parents from both sides to come to the station. As such, we hope that you can cooperate with us.”
nAfter staying mum for a short while, he replied in a low voice, “Let her answer the phone.”
nThe policeman on the phone was stunned for a while.
nThis man’s tone was not too strict and commanding, but upon hearing his cold yet exalted voice, the policeman consciously returned the phone to the little girl in front of him immediately without saying anything else.
nAnhao already felt a tingling sense on her head once she reached for her phone, she did not think that the honest policeman would really call Mr. Zuo.
n“Hello?”
nShe turned and walked outside, her voice was soft and she really had no idea what to say.
nShe even refused to believe that a policeman would become the middleman of the first phone call between her and her newly-wedded husband.
nAfter calming herself down, she braved it out and said, “Are you free tomorrow?”
nWhile the important content of Shengling Group’s new quarterly plans was displayed on the giant screen in the conference room, Zuo Hancheng spoke in a light tone upon hearing the little girl’s voice that sounded a bit unusual, “What happened?”
n“You heard them just now, and you can already guess that the Gu family will never come to meddle in this on my behalf. But, I’m unable to get out of this if my parents don’t show up, not to mention being expelled from A High School. So… would you mind… coming to help me fix this…?”
nIt was really embarrassing and shameful for her to request that a person who she had met only once come to this sensitive place, not only that, this person was her newly-wedded husband!
nHe was obviously a bit shocked too, but he replied after being silent for a moment. “Okay.”
nOriginally just taking her chances, Anhao did not think that Mr. Zuo would agree to the matter she had no high hopes in the first place.
nZuo Hancheng signaled for the others to be silent while signing the plan documents his assistant handed over. Then, he finally realized that he had just made a promise to do such an absurd, weird thing for his newly-wedded wife.
nAfter keeping quiet for a while, he signaled for the meeting to resume while asking the little girl over the phone at the same time, “What time tomorrow?”
n“They said the latest is before tomorrow afternoon.”
n“Sure.”
n***
nTwo hours later, as Anhao had just returned to the school dormitory, she heard several aunts, who took care of the dorm, gossiping with the door half-closed on the first floor. She went to eavesdrop on them upon hearing them mentioning her own name.
n“Have you heard? Gu Anhao attacked the Xu family’s two beloved sons and was directly taken to the police station today!”
n“Can’t believe that this wild child is actually the daughter of Mayor Gu Tianming! God must be blind when reincarnating this ridiculous person in the first place!”
n“But I also find it rather weird. Why is no one responsible for her wellbeing when she’s none other than the mayor’s daughter? I’ve never seen her parents show up in these three years’ time.”
