nChapter 24
n“Well, I was about to, but I saw the invited professor outside passing by. I fear that such a bad student like me would not only leave a very bad impression on him, but also taint A High School’s good name. So, I thought that it’s best for me to hide in here.”
nWith a righteous look, Anhao resumed her speech, “I’m on my way to the principal’s office now!”
nThe corner of the President of Academic Affairs’s lips twitched.
nThat day in the police station, they did not react when they witnessed Zuo Hancheng taking the little girl away. After that, she vanished without a trace for three days.
nUntil he finally caught her today. As he was preparing to ask about her relationship with Zuo Hancheng, Anhao opened the door and scurried out.
n“Hey, Gu Anhao! You…” The President sprinted out of the door, only to see her already scurrying to the stairs on the other side like a rabbit, and then disappearing into thin air.
nBut what was astonishing was that Gu Anhao was wearing a skirt today!
nOn that girl’s upper body was their school uniform, while her lower body was a skirt that was quite suitable for her age. ‘Something must be wrong with my eyes.’
nOn the other side, Anhao had already run up the stairs in order to avoid the President of Academic Affairs’ nagging. Turning back, she saw that the President did not come after her, she then scampered toward the principal’s office.
nAs she sprinted into the principal’s office, she saw the Xu family’s parents sitting inside.
nAnhao’s footsteps abruptly halted. Her face suddenly turned cold and desolate, and then she proceeded to turn around and walk away.
n“Hey, Anhao!” Mrs. Xu stood up hurriedly.
n“Anhao, Anhao, wait up!” Mr. Xu also came after her in a hurry. After reaching behind her, he politely spoke, “Anhao, we just wanna talk about Mr. Zuo. Nothing else…”
nZuo Hancheng said before that he would definitely not come to see these kinds of people. Therefore, she had absolutely nothing to discuss with them.
n“Uncle, you saw the surveillance feed in the police station that day with your own eyes. So whatever happened between me and your sons should be settled already. If you still can’t forget about how I beat them up, then you can discuss with the cops. Why are you looking for me here?”
n“That was indeed on those blasted two sons of mine.” Mr. Xu, smiling politely, made a gesture toward the door of the principal’s office. “So, how about we discuss this inside?”
n“Anhao.” The principal walked past her. “Mr and Mrs Xu feel that they mistreated you in the police station that day, so they came here specially to apologize. There’s nothing more to it.”
n“Apologize?” Anhao sneered, “Shouldn’t they arrest a bad girl like me? How would I dare even accept their apology?”
nMr. Xu apologetically smiled. “Your father, Mayor Gu, is occasionally on good terms with us. Mr. Zuo has collaborated with us in the past too. And since we’re all quite related in the world of commerce, it’s better if you discuss about this with Mr. Zuo. Please don’t make a mountain out of a molehill, alright?”
n“And what the hell does that have anything to do with me?” Anhao glared at Mr. Xu.”Uncle, are you here because you’re afraid that you offended Mr. Zuo, or you honestly wanted to give me a genuine apology?”
nThe Xu family parents did not think that such a nineteen-year-old high school student like her would possess such a sharp, bright mind. Despite having seen so much in their life as adults, her behavior was making them rather tired.
nMrs Xu, seeing the girl was totally unmoved, came over and pulled Anhao’s hand with a smile, saying, “Anhao, I went overboard that day because I lost my temper! Please don’t take it personally! You see, our sons are almost the same age as you. So, we mean no harm to you because we’re parents too! We just wanted to give you a scare that day, that’s all! No harm intended!”
nAnhao, with a smile too, pulled her hands out of Mrs Xu’s.
n“Anhao, please don’t be mad.” Realizing that she was not buying it, Mrs Xu hurriedly said, “I know what I did was wrong too. I feel more and more uneasy the more I think about it. So why not let Uncle and Aunty buy you something, or treat you to a meal as a means of compensation? What do you like?”
nAnhao turned around to look at the principal, who was standing at the side without interrupting their conversation. “Mr. Principal, what do you think? The parents of some random student came all the way here to blatantly offer gifts to a student like me.”
nThe principal felt deeply ashamed. “Anhao, they just want to apologize.”
n“I want nothing from the two of you. If Uncle and Aunty here really do wanna apologize, then tell the entire school how in the hell the cops entered this place and took me away?
n“We, we don’t think that’s a good idea… We just wanted to treat both you and Mr. Zuo to a meal. You know, so all of us can have a talk, and settle this little misunderstanding here…”
n“My apologies. Mr. Zuo may have brought the police and evidence to help prove my innocence last time, but he has no time for a meal with some random outsiders like you two. Since you two are here to apologize sincerely, then do whatever I ask. If not, then my apologies. I still have a lecture to attend to at the lecture hall, so I don’t have time to be here with you.”
nWhile speaking, Anhao proceeded to leave.
n“Hey, Anhao…” Mrs. Xu instantly grabbed her hand. “We’re really here to say sorry. As long as Mr. Zuo would not take the Xu family’s tender documents away during F Government’s year-end tender-opening event or inflict any pressure upon us, we’ll do exactly as you ask!”
n‘Zuo Hancheng has such a powerful capability to obstruct the Xu family’s business? No wonder they’re so afraid of him.’
nHowever, for people like Zuo Hancheng, if they really had any real power, they would not be this mean toward those who were not at the same level as they were. Apparently, the reason why they were doing this was because they felt guilty, not to mention fear of having offended him.
nAnhao did not say a word. Her face was so dark to the point of being seemingly unforgiving.
nIn the end, Mr Xu made up his mind. He gritted his teeth and said, “Fine. Since we made a grave mistake for putting you through so much, we’ll apologize in front of everyone.”
nAnhao raised her eyebrows. She turned around to look at the principal who still did not butt in on their conversation. “You heard that, Mr Principal? They want to make an apology, so there’s no need for me to stop them.”
nAfter saying so, Anhao directly walked away without turning back.
nWatching Anhao’s carefree silhouette, the principal shook his head as a sign of surrender.
n‘What a wild kid!’
n***
nIt took Anhao about fifteen or sixteen minutes to make a round trip to the principal’s office. By the time she returned to the lecture hall, most of the teachers and students were already there.
nAnhao sneakily returned to her seat in a rush. Chunchun then turned around and asked, “Did the principal give you problems?”
n“Not at all.” Anhao chuckled. She then leaned on Chunchun’s shoulder like a child. While laughing heartily, she said, “Not only did he not trouble me, but this is also where the fun is about to begin!”
